Why do I have to wait 7 days to have my custom order shipped? - All custom order candles require a cure process. Sometimes this can take up to 7 days for the wax and fragrance to bind properly. To cure a candle they must be in a temperature controlled environment.
Safety - To prevent fire and serious injury: Burn candle within sight. Keep away from drafts and vibrations. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep candle free of any foreign materials including matches and wick trimmings. Only burn the candle on a level fire resistant surface. Do not burn the candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
How do I burn a candle? - The first burn of a candle is the most important as it sets the stage for the life of the candle. When you first light a candle make sure you burn it from 2-4 hours depending on size of your candle. You want to make sure all the wax has melted to the outer rim of the glass and produces a "melt pool".
What is paraffin and do you use it? - No! We do not use paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is a by-product of the crude oil refining process. We use 100% soy wax that is a hydrogenated form of soybean oil and is natural, renewable, non toxic and biodegradable.
Is it normal for the wick to look like a mushroom? - The "mushroom" shape, formed at the end of a candle wick after burning, is the result of carbon buildup. If "mushrooming" occurs with your candle, we recommend trimming the carbon buildup off the wick between burnings.
Do I need to trim the wick? - Yes, before you light the candle you must trim the wick to 1/4 inch. If the wick is not trimmed properly a number of issues can arise. These issues can include: wick mushrooming which may cause the wick to smoke, higher temperature burn which may result in the candle burning to quickly, and burning off the fragrance.
What are your wicks made out of? - Our wicks are constructed from all natural ring-spun cotton. They do not contain zinc, lead, or any other metals and have a natural wax coating.
Why after I blow out my candle does the wax look bumpy? - When a candle cools down after burning the top may look "bumpy". This is natural characteristic of soy and does not effect the burn of the candle.
What is candle tunneling? - Candle tunneling is where there is not a full melt pool in your candle (or unmelted wax on the sides of the glassware). This can be a result of not allowing the candle to burn properly for an amount of time or the wick being cut to short resulting in not enough heat being produce from the wick. If you have candle tunneling occurring wrap some aluminum foil around the glassware while the candle is lit (**make sure that it is not where near the flame) this will result in an insulation process. Once the melt pool has reached the outer rim of the glass you can take the foil off.
Why am I seeing a white ring after I burn a candle? - We use 100% soy for our products and soy is much more temperamental than other forms of wax. This white ring can be caused by the color, fragrance and/or a combination of both. It is normal and does not have any effect on the way the candle will burn.
What are phthalates? Phthalates are esters of Phthalic acid. They are used to dissolve raw materials when making fragrance oils. Many of our fragrances are Phthalate free (**unless noted in the description).
